Dietitian Consultations for Plant Based Eating

More plants, more health, more flavour!

Plant-based eating is for everyone, and anyone can feel better making plant-based eating a focus in their diet. The average Australian does not meet the daily fruit and veg requirements. So as dietitians who support plant-based eating, we are passionate about bringing more plants into the diets of every Australian – and especially here in Brisbane!

Increasing whole, plant-based and minimally processed foods is always a good idea for overall health. This can range from excluding animal protein completely, to just eating more plants.

Vegan diet

A vegan diet is exclusively plant-based and excludes all animal products and by-products. While plants are definitely healthy and most of us don’t eat enough vegetables, a vegan diet takes careful planning. We need to be proactive in providing ourselves with all the nutrition we need to fuel our bodies, and gut microbiome effectively.

If not thoughtfully balanced, a vegan diet can leave us seriously low on many B vitamins, calcium, iron, selenium, zinc, as well as omega-3 fatty acids. So it’s super important to be empowered around how to balance that plate! We can help you with nutritional education, meal planning, shopping and cooking, so that you can feel confident your vegan diet is nourishing you.

Vegetarian diet

Vegetarian eating may include animal protein sources such as eggs (ovo vegetarian) and/or dairy (lacto vegetarian). If so, a vegetarian diet can be a little easier to balance, but it is still important to understand where your nutritional needs may be greater.

Removing meat means focusing on compensating with vitamin and mineral-rich foods. From planning, shopping and cooking, we can help you create a nutritionally balanced vegetarian diet that helps you get the most out of plant-based foods. At the same time, focusing on satiation and reducing processed foods.

Flexitarian diet

Want to eat more whole, plant-based foods and less animal protein? A flexitarian diet focuses on plant-based proteins and other minimally processed foods, and still includes meat, dairy, eggs and fish in your diet from time to time. This type of eating makes it easier to create nutritional balance, while at the same time, making plant-foods your priority.

We show you what a balanced week might look like following this plan, and how to up your game for taste, nutrition and diversity with plenty of exciting plant-based food ideas. We also show you how to select the right volume and quality of protein when you do choose meat days, so that your entire diet is supporting your goals.
