Microbiome Test Interpretation and Optimisation.
Trying to make sense of gut-related issues for yourself or your loved one? You may have spoken to more practitioners than you can poke a stick at, and still not found the right solutions that lead to a better quality of life. You’ve probably come across the range of tests and protocols available for someone with digestive issues, such as a microbiome test, SIBO test, or FODMAPs elimination diet. These can all be helpful options for better digestive health, but which is right for you?
There is a plethora of information about the microbiome out there nowadays.
Not all of the advice is helpful for those with complex conditions, nor provided by people who are suitably trained in the nuances of the digestive system. Your digestive health and your microbiome is as individual as you are and most often requires a clinical, one-on-one approach when experiencing significant symptoms or to complement your testing. So if you haven’t had success yet, perhaps it’s time to seek out the help that will really make a difference.
How we make the process easier
Guidance on gut-related testing
Do you suffer from IBS symptoms? Or suspect you have a food intolerance? Do you need a gut microbiome test? Or perhaps you’re confused – should you do a breath test or a stool test? There is such a range of tests at a whole range of prices, it can be confusing to know which one, if any, are right for you. You’ve come to the right place to find out what’s true in your case. Sometimes, working with our dietitians to balance the microbiome is all that’s needed, and you don’t need to test at all. However, if we determine a particular test will be beneficial, we can guide you through the process.
Microbiome test interpretation
Microbiome test results can be overwhelming, and they usually don’t come cheap. While these tests are more accessible than ever, getting the correct interpretation is important. We are trained in the gut microbiome and can quickly analyse any test result, from any testing centre and apply it to your individual circumstances. Including your CoBiome test. This means, you are more likely to get meaningful results that point towards solutions. What’s more, we can work with you to actually apply those results to your current situation. We have many years of experience supporting patients in practice through a range of complex and chronic conditions.
Microbiome optimisation
Many people get their microbiome test results but don’t have the support to apply those results. Then they end up with a meaningless piece of paper filed in a drawer somewhere. Let’s take some action to apply these findings to any existing symptoms and to improve your overall well being. We understand the gut microbiome and how to improve diversity and richness. We work with whole-body solutions that fuel the microbiome for optimal gut health . Without supplements or medication, but naturally and sustainably through your diet. With further exercise or lifestyle support where indicated.
Interpreting SIBO test results
While gut microbiome testing can tell us many things about your health, it won’t tell us if an overgrowth of bacteria is present in the small intestine. This is known as Small Intestinal Bowel Overgrowth (SIBO). SIBO can cause a range of bowel symptoms and is common in people experiencing IBS symptoms. The less invasive SIBO test is a breath test, or you can undergo endoscopy. We have strategies to help you determine if testing is right for you, interpret results from any test, manage a SIBO diagnosis, as well as solutions to help prevent recurrence of symptoms.
Food intolerance test interpretation
Do you suspect food intolerance? Do you have other symptoms outside of gut issues, such as skin conditions, headaches, or immune-based responses? Perhaps you’re looking for, or have already undergone an IgG (immunoglobulin G) test? While the results can be enlightening, they should only be one aspect of your journey to true food intolerance diagnosis and management. If you’ve undergone a food intolerance test such as NutriPATH, we can help you interpret the results more fully. From here, we can determine your next best step. If suitable we can create a balanced, tailored meal plan that aligns with results.
Elimination diet support
Have you been advised to go on a FODMAPs diet? Or perhaps your test reveals a food intolerance? While a FODMAPs diet is often recommended as the first solution for IBS, it isn’t always the right choice. In fact, we always see restricting foods as the last resort. Determining food sensitivity is best done with a dietitian experienced and trained in both gut health optimisation and FODMAPs. First we rule out gut dysbiosis prior to elimination diet. Then we correctly supervise the elimination phase if indicated, ensuring the microbiome stays balanced and nutrition is optimised through the process.
